Incubation: 1-3d

Period of infectivity: immediately before and up to 1-2wks after onset

Vaccines:  live attenuated  - orally administrated

  • RV5 - pentavalent

Schedule: 6wk, 3mo, 5mo,

efficacy: highly effective against severe rotavirus

some efficacy against all cause diarrhoea and herd immunity

precaution; theoretically - intussusception

CI with acute or moderate GI

  • double stranded RNA virus

Clinical

  • infects almost all children

  • up to 1/3 develop fever >39

  • illness 3-8d
